Key Facts
Meet the Nature Lovers!
Imagine people who love the Earth and all its amazing creatures. That's kind of like modern pagans! They believe in nature and often celebrate the changing seasons, like when flowers bloom in spring or leaves fall in autumn.
It's like having a big party for the whole planet! They might honor gods and goddesses who represent different parts of nature, like the sun, moon, or forests. It's a way to feel connected to the world around us.
Whispers from the Past
These beliefs are super old, like stories passed down from your grandparents' grandparents! For a long, long time, people all over the world worshipped nature. But then, other religions became more popular.
For a while, these old ways went quiet. Then, about 100 years ago, people started remembering and bringing back these nature-focused traditions. It’s like finding an old toy and deciding to play with it again!
Why It's Cool to Care
Modern paganism reminds us how important our planet is. It teaches us to respect the environment and live in harmony with it. Think about how happy you feel when you play outside! Modern pagans feel that connection all the time. They believe that by taking care of nature, they are taking care of themselves and everyone else. It’s a way to be thankful for the world we live in.
Celebrating the Sun and Moon
How do modern pagans practice their beliefs? They often celebrate special days tied to the sun and moon. There are eight main celebrations each year, called Sabbats.
Some are about the longest day of summer or the shortest day of winter. Others celebrate planting seeds or harvesting crops. Many also have smaller celebrations, called Esbats, that honor the moon.
It's all about noticing and honoring the rhythms of nature.
