A Tiny Queen is Born!

Imagine being a queen when you're only six days old! That's what happened to Mary. Her dad, King James V, passed away, and little Mary became the Queen of Scotland.

But she was too young to rule, so grown-ups helped make the big decisions. When she was a bit older, she even went to live in France and became a queen there too! It was like going to a super fancy boarding school, but with crowns and castles.

Back to Scotland and Big Problems

When Mary returned to Scotland, things were different. Many people had changed their religion, and some didn't like that she was Catholic. A very loud preacher named John Knox often spoke against her. Mary tried to be fair and let everyone practice their religion, but it was a tricky balancing act. She was a queen in a kingdom that was changing fast, and it made her life very complicated.

Love, Marriage, and Trouble

Mary got married a couple of times. Her first husband was the Prince of France, but he died. Then she married her cousin, Lord Darnley, and they had a son named James. But their marriage wasn't happy. There was a big argument, and Darnley was found murdered! Soon after, Mary married the man who was blamed for Darnley's death, which made many people very angry.

A Queen in Captivity

Because of all the trouble, Mary's own people locked her up! She escaped and tried to get help from her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I of England. But Elizabeth was worried Mary might try to take her throne. So, instead of helping, Elizabeth kept Mary locked up for almost 19 years! Finally, Mary was accused of plotting against Elizabeth and was sadly beheaded.
