Meet the House Helpers!

Once upon a time, a big storm called Hurricane Katrina made many homes disappear in a place called New Orleans. A famous actor named Brad Pitt wanted to help! He started a special group called the Make It Right Foundation.

Their big idea was to build new, strong houses for the people who needed them most. These weren't just any houses; they wanted to build them in a way that was good for our planet, like using special eco-friendly materials!

From a Big Idea to Real Houses!

The Make It Right Foundation started in 2007, like a superhero mission to rebuild. They didn't just build in New Orleans; they also helped people in other cities like Newark and Kansas City. By 2015, they had built 109 homes! That's a lot of houses, enough to fill a whole neighborhood. Each house cost a lot of money to build, almost as much as a fancy new playground!

Super Houses with a Secret!

The houses built by Make It Right were supposed to be special. They were designed to be good for the environment. But, sometimes, even superheroes have challenges! Some of the houses had problems with things like electricity and water pipes. It was like a puzzle that didn't quite fit perfectly. Sadly, many of these homes couldn't be lived in anymore because of these issues.

What Happened Next?

Even though the houses had problems, the people who started Make It Right were sad to see this happen. They wanted to help fix things. There were even lawsuits, which are like big disagreements that lawyers help solve. Other groups tried to help pay for the repairs. It shows that even when things go wrong, people try their best to make them right again.
