France's Last King!

Imagine being the boss of a whole country! That's what Louis XVI was. He was born a prince and became the King of France a long, long time ago, in 1774. He was married to Queen Marie Antoinette, and they had children. But being king wasn't always easy, and France was about to go through some HUGE changes!

Trying to Fix Things

When Louis first became king, he wanted to make France better. He tried to make new rules, like being kinder to people who didn't believe in the same things as most French people. He also thought about stopping the death penalty for soldiers who ran away. But some powerful people didn't like his ideas, and it was hard to make the changes happen.

Bread and Big Problems

One big problem was bread! Louis tried to let people buy and sell bread more freely, but sometimes this made the price go up, especially when there wasn't enough to eat. This made people very unhappy. He also helped America fight for its freedom from Great Britain, which was a really big deal!

A Royal Rumble!

Things got so mixed up that people started to protest and even riot, like when they stormed a big prison called the Bastille. Louis had to listen to the people more. He tried to escape once, but he was caught. Eventually, France decided it didn't want a king anymore, and Louis XVI lost his crown and his life.
