Meet the Colorful Chatterbox!

The long-tailed broadbill is a super cool bird that looks like it’s wearing a rainbow! It’s about as long as a grown-up’s ruler, but it’s very light, like a few slices of bread. This bird has bright blueish-green feathers on its back and belly, and a sunny yellow patch on its throat.

It lives in forests where it can find yummy insects to eat. It’s also a very social bird, meaning it loves to hang out with its friends in big, noisy groups!

A Pear-Shaped Home for Baby Birds

When it’s time to start a family, the long-tailed broadbill gets busy building a special home. They build a nest that looks like a pear hanging from a tree branch. It’s a cozy place for the mama and papa bird to keep their eggs safe.

The mama bird usually lays about five or six eggs. Both the mom and dad take turns sitting on the eggs to keep them warm, and when the baby birds hatch, both parents work hard to feed them tasty bugs!

Why This Bird is a Forest Friend

This bird is important because it helps keep the forest healthy! It eats lots of insects, which means fewer bugs might munch on the trees. The long-tailed broadbill is also a very noisy bird, and its loud calls can be heard from far away.

It’s the only bird of its kind, which makes it extra special. Imagine if you were the only kid in your class with a special superpower – that’s kind of how this bird is in its family!

Where Do These Feathered Friends Live?

You can find these amazing birds in the mountains of the Himalayas and in forests all the way to Southeast Asia. They love living in trees and are always on the lookout for tasty insects. They are very friendly and like to travel in big, loud groups, chattering and singing together.

It’s like a big bird party happening in the forest! They are only quiet when they are busy taking care of their eggs and little chicks.
