Key Facts
Where Do They All Live?
New South Wales (NSW) is a huge place in Australia, like a giant playground! It's split into smaller areas called Local Government Areas (LGAs). Think of them like neighborhoods in a big city, but much bigger.
Some LGAs are in a super busy place called Greater Sydney, where lots of people live close together. Others are spread out in the rest of NSW, which is called Regional NSW. It's like having a busy city park and then lots of wide-open fields and forests!
Who's in Charge of What?
Each LGA has a special team called a council. These councils are like the grown-ups who help make decisions for their area. They make sure the parks are nice, the roads are safe, and that everyone has the services they need.
They are chosen by the people who live there, kind of like voting for class captains! These councils help make sure everything works well for everyone in their little part of NSW.
Super Special Places!
Did you know there's a place called the Unincorporated Far West? It's so big and has so few people, it doesn't have its own council! It's like a giant, empty room with no one to organize the toys. Then there's Lord Howe Island, which is also special. It has its own board that helps run things, like a small family looking after their own house. These places are a bit different from the others!
When Do They Get New Helpers?
The people who run the councils get chosen every four years. That's like waiting for your birthday four times! The last time they chose new council helpers was in September 2024. It's important because it means the people in charge can change if the community wants them to. It's how everyone gets a say in how their local area is managed, making sure it stays a great place to live.
