Saturday Night Live: The Stars Who Made Us Laugh!
Key Facts
Meet the Superstars of SNL!
Imagine a giant party where famous actors, singers, and even presidents come to tell jokes and sing songs! That's kind of like Saturday Night Live (SNL). It's a TV show that started a long, long time ago, in 1975.
Every week, a special guest host leads the show. They do a funny speech, introduce the music, and act in silly skits with the regular cast. It's like being the captain of a comedy ship for one night!
Who's Been on SNL?
So many cool people have been guests! The very first host was a comedian named George Carlin. Then, Candice Bergen was the first lady to host.
Some people have hosted SO many times, they get a special club called the 'Five-Timers Club'! Alec Baldwin has hosted the most, like 17 times! That's more times than you've been in school.
Even people who used to be on the show, like Chevy Chase and Tina Fey, have come back to host.
Singers and Double Duty!
It's not just actors! Amazing musicians also play on SNL. They sing their hit songs for everyone to hear. Sometimes, a star is so talented, they do BOTH hosting and singing! Paul Simon was the first to do this. The Rolling Stones are the only band to ever host and sing in the same show. Imagine a rock concert and a comedy show all rolled into one!
Youngest and Oldest Stars!
Did you know that a super young star, Drew Barrymore, hosted when she was only 7 years old? That's younger than most kids in your class! And Betty White was the oldest, at 88 years old, which is like your great-great-grandparent's age. She was so great, she did the whole show without needing a break. SNL loves having all sorts of guests, from the youngest to the wisest!
