Lie
Key Facts
What's a Fib?
Imagine you accidentally broke a toy. If you said, 'It just broke by itself!' that would be a lie. A lie is when someone says something they know isn't true.
It's like telling a pretend story, but you want someone to believe it's real. Sometimes people lie to get out of trouble, or to make themselves look better, or even to protect someone's feelings. But it's important to remember that telling the truth is usually the best way to go!
When Did Lying Start?
People have been lying for a very, very long time. Even before there were books or schools, people told stories that weren't true. Think about ancient myths and legends โ some of those might have started as little exaggerations or made-up tales.
It's hard to know exactly when the first lie was told, but it's something humans have done for thousands of years. It's part of how we communicate and sometimes try to understand the world around us.
Why Telling the Truth is Super!
When you tell the truth, people learn to trust you. Imagine if your best friend always told you the truth, even when it was hard. You'd know you could count on them!
But if they lied a lot, you wouldn't know what to believe. Trust is like a special superpower that helps friendships grow strong. Telling the truth helps build that trust, making it easier for everyone to get along and solve problems together.
When Do People Tell Untruths?
Sometimes people tell lies when they're scared of getting in trouble. Like if you spill juice and say, 'The cat did it!' Other times, people might lie to make themselves seem more interesting, saying they can jump as high as a house! And sometimes, a 'white lie' is told to avoid hurting someone's feelings, like saying you like a drawing even if it's not your favorite.
But even small lies can sometimes cause bigger problems later on.
