Liberty: What's That Big Idea?

Have you ever seen a super tall statue? Lady Liberty is one of the biggest and most famous statues in the whole world! She stands on an island in New York Harbor, waving a torch to welcome people. She's so tall, she's like a giant friend watching over the city. She was a gift from faraway France to the United States, celebrating friendship and freedom.

Lady Liberty didn't just appear! She was built in France, piece by piece, like a giant puzzle. Then, she was taken apart and shipped across the big ocean in many boxes. Once she arrived in America, workers put her back together. It took a lot of hard work and teamwork to build her, just like building a huge LEGO castle!

Lady Liberty is a symbol of freedom. For many people who came to America a long, long time ago, seeing her was the first sign that they were in a new land where they could be free.
