Key Facts
Meet the Rocky Islands!
Imagine a few small rocks poking out of the sea! That's the Liancourt Rocks. They are like little islands in a big ocean, far away from land. There are two main rocks and lots of smaller ones. The tallest rock is as tall as a very tall building, maybe even taller than a giraffe! These rocks are in a special part of the ocean called the Sea of Japan, between Korea and Japan.
Who Named These Rocks?
These rocks have a funny name, Liancourt Rocks. It comes from a French boat called Le Liancourt. A long, long time ago, in 1849, this boat almost crashed into the rocks! The sailors were so surprised they named the rocks after their boat. In Korea, they call them Dokdo, and in Japan, they call them Takeshima. So, these little rocks have three different names!
What's So Special About Them?
These rocks might look small, but they are in a super important spot. The water around them is full of yummy fish, so it's a great place for fishing. Scientists also think there might be a special kind of gas hidden deep under the water, like a treasure! This makes the rocks important for the countries nearby.
Who Lives Here?
Not many people live on these tiny rocks. It's mostly just a few people who help take care of them. But even though it's small, it's a place that Korea looks after. It's like having a special backyard that you keep tidy and safe. The rocks are a part of Korea, and people there feel proud of them.
