Meet Laura, a Canadian Hero!

Laura Secord was a super brave woman who lived a long, long time ago in Canada. She was born in 1775, which is even before your grandparents were born! Her dad moved their family to a place called Upper Canada. Later, Laura married a man named James Secord. Life wasn't always easy, but Laura was known for her courage, especially during a big fight called the War of 1812.

Her Amazing 20-Mile Trek!

During the War of 1812, American soldiers were in a part of Canada called Queenston. Laura's husband, James, was hurt. Laura overheard the American soldiers planning a surprise attack!

She knew she had to warn the British soldiers. So, she set off on a long, secret walk of about 20 miles. That's like walking from your school to the next town!

She walked through dangerous territory to get her important message to the right people.

A Message That Saved the Day!

Laura's long walk was a secret mission! She walked for a whole day and night, all by herself, to reach Lieutenant FitzGibbon, a British officer. She told him about the American soldiers' plan. Because of her warning, the British soldiers and their Mohawk friends were ready for the attack. They were able to stop the Americans at a place called Beaver Dams. Her bravery helped protect Canada!

Remembering Laura Today!

Even though people didn't know about Laura's brave walk for a long time, she is famous in Canada now! There are schools, statues, and even a special coin named after her. And guess what? There's a very popular chocolate company called Laura Secord Chocolates! They named it after her to remember her amazing courage. She shows us that one person can make a big difference.
