Lake Urmia is a super special place in the country of Iran, which is in a part of the world called Western Asia. It's like a giant, sparkling bathtub for birds and tiny creatures! The lake is so big, it's like having many swimming pools all connected together. It’s surrounded by dry, dusty lands, making the bright blue water even more amazing to see.
What's So Cool About the Water?
This lake is famous because its water is super, super salty, even saltier than the ocean! This means that only special little creatures can live there. Tiny shrimp called 'brine shrimp' love the salty water, and they are a yummy snack for the many birds that visit. The water is so salty, you can float really easily, just like in the Dead Sea!

Lots and lots of birds love Lake Urmia. They come to swim, eat the tiny shrimp, and build their nests. One of the most famous visitors is the flamingo, with its long legs and pink feathers. Imagine seeing hundreds of flamingos wading in the bright blue water! It’s a busy place for these flying visitors, especially when they are looking for food.

Sometimes, lakes can get smaller if they don't get enough water. Lake Urmia has been getting smaller over the years.
