Lake Ecosystems: Watery Worlds!

Imagine a giant puddle that never dries up – that's a lake! Lakes are like big, calm swimming pools for nature. Some are small like a bathtub, while others are HUGE, bigger than your whole town! They have water that stays put, not rushing like a river. These watery homes are filled with living things, like wiggly plants and swimming critters, and non-living things like rocks and sunshine.

Lakes are bustling cities for plants and animals! Tiny, invisible helpers called micro-organisms float around. Plants with roots in the mud reach up to the sun.

Fish swim in the open water, and turtles might sunbathe on logs. Some lakes are so deep, the very bottom is dark and mysterious, where special creatures live that don't need sunlight. It’s like having different neighborhoods in one big lake!

Lakes aren't always the same. Some are born from rain and disappear when it's dry. Big lakes can change over a super long time.
