Meet the Kudu Crew!

Kudus are amazing antelopes that live in Africa. There are two kinds: the Lesser Kudu and the Greater Kudu. They look a lot alike, but the Greater Kudu is bigger!

Imagine a really tall grown-up; a big male Greater Kudu can be taller than that at the shoulder. They have beautiful stripes on their sides that help them hide in the bushes. They are herbivores, which means they love to munch on leaves, twigs, and fruits.

They are super shy and quick to run away if they hear a noise!

Twirly Horns of Wonder!

The most amazing thing about male kudus is their horns! They grow in a beautiful spiral shape, like a corkscrew or a party streamer that’s been twisted. The horns of the Greater Kudu can grow to be as long as your arm, or even longer!

These impressive horns are used for fighting other males to see who is strongest, especially when it’s time to find a mate. Female kudus don't have horns, so you can always tell the boys apart from the girls!

Where Do They Hang Out?

Kudus love to live in places with lots of trees and bushes, like the savannas and woodlands of eastern and southern Africa. The Lesser Kudu prefers the dry, bushy areas, while the Greater Kudu can be found in a wider range of places, from forests to open grasslands. They need these places to find food and to hide from animals that might want to eat them, like lions.

They are very good at blending in with their surroundings, making them tricky to spot!

Kudu Superpowers!

Kudus have some incredible skills! They are very quiet and can sneak through the bushes without making a sound. When they need to, they can jump really high, sometimes over fences that are as tall as a grown person!

Their big ears help them hear even the tiniest sounds, like a twig snapping, so they know if danger is near. If they do get scared, they can run very fast to escape. They are truly masters of survival in the wild African landscape.
