Korfball

Korfball is a super exciting team sport that's a bit like basketball and netball. The main goal is to throw a ball into a basket. But here's a twist: the basket doesn't have a net and it's mounted on a tall pole, about as high as a second-story window! It’s a game where everyone works together, with boys and girls playing on the same team.

This amazing game was invented a long, long time ago, in 1902, in a country called the Netherlands. A kind schoolteacher named Nico Broekhuysen wanted to create a sport that both boys and girls could play together. He thought it would be a great way for them to have fun and be active. Now, people all over the world play Korfball!

In Korfball, two teams play against each other. Each team has eight players: four girls and four boys. You can't run with the ball, and you have to pass it to your teammates to get closer to the basket.

The most important rule is that only players of the same gender can guard each other. This means a boy can only guard a boy, and a girl can only guard a girl. It makes the game fair and fun for everyone!

To play Korfball, you need a special ball that's easy to grip and throw. You also need those tall poles with baskets on top, which are about 3.5 meters (or 11.5 feet) high. That's taller than a giraffe! Players wear comfortable sports clothes and shoes, just like for other sports. The most important thing is having a team ready to play and have a blast!
