Where the Mountains Touch the Sky!

Kootenay National Park is a super big park in Canada, way over in British Columbia. It's like a giant playground made of mountains and sparkling rivers! The land here is super tall, going from about as high as a tall building to as high as a mountain peak!

It's home to the Kootenay River and the whole Vermilion River, which is like a special secret river that stays inside the park. The park is so big, it's like having a whole country just for nature!

A Road Built for Adventure!

A long, long time ago, people wanted to build a special road called the Banff-Windermere Highway. To help build it, the land around the road became Kootenay National Park! It was like a trade: a road for a park!

This happened in 1920. Now, people love to visit the park, especially when it's warm from June to September. It's the perfect time to see all the amazing nature and maybe even camp under the stars!

Neighbors in a Nature Club!

Kootenay National Park isn't alone! It's part of a super-duper special club called the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site. This means it's neighbors with other amazing parks like Banff and Yoho.

They all share borders, like fences between yards. The Continental Divide, a giant line on the land, is like a special border between Kootenay and Banff. It's like a big family of parks all looking out for each other!

What's Inside This Wild Place?

This park is a home for so many cool things! You can find mountains that are super tall, some reaching over 11,000 feet high! That's way taller than a skyscraper! There are also rivers that flow through the park, like the Kootenay River. The park is a special place for animals and plants to live safely. It's a place where nature gets to be the boss and show off its amazing beauty!
