Jupiter LXX
Key Facts
Meet Jupiter's Tiny Friend!
Jupiter LXX is a moon, which is like a little rocky ball that goes around a much bigger planet. In this case, the giant planet is Jupiter! Jupiter LXX is super small, much smaller than even the smallest continent on Earth. It's so small that it's hard to even see without a powerful telescope. Imagine a tiny pebble compared to a giant beach ball – that's kind of like Jupiter and its moon LXX!
A Speedy Trip Around Jupiter!
This little moon zips around Jupiter super fast. It takes less than one Earth day to make a full circle! That's faster than you can go to school and back. Jupiter LXX is also very far away from Jupiter, much farther than our own Moon is from Earth. Because it's so far and so small, it's a bit of a mystery how it got there.
What's It Made Of?
Scientists think Jupiter LXX is made of rock, just like the ground you walk on. It's not made of gas like Jupiter itself. Because it's so small and rocky, it doesn't have any air to breathe or water to swim in. It's a very cold and dark place, far from the Sun's warm rays. It's like a little dusty rock floating in space!
Discovering This Little Guy!
Jupiter LXX was only found very recently, in the year 2000! That's not too long ago, even for your parents or grandparents. It was discovered by scientists using big telescopes that can see very far away. They were looking at Jupiter and noticed this tiny little dot moving around it. It's amazing that we can still find new things in space!
