Who is Joseph Kabila?

Joseph Kabila was like the captain of a very big ship, the Democratic Republic of the Congo! He was its president for a super long time, from 2001 to 2019. That's longer than you've been alive! He took over when he was still quite young, after something very sad happened to his dad, who was also the president. He had to make important decisions for his country right away.

A Country in Trouble

When Joseph Kabila became president, his country was going through a really tough time, like a big argument that wouldn't stop. This was called the Second Congo War. He helped to end that big fight, which was a really important job. He also worked to make things better, like fixing roads and encouraging people to build new things. It was like trying to tidy up a very messy room!

Making Things Grow!

During his time as president, the country's money-making power grew a lot, about five times bigger! That's like if your allowance suddenly became five times bigger! He wanted more people to invest in the country, especially in digging up valuable rocks and metals. He also helped make sure there were elections, like voting for class president, so people could choose their leaders.

Still a Big Deal!

Even though Joseph Kabila isn't president anymore, he's still important. He helped his country have its first peaceful change of leaders in a very long time. He's now a senator for life, which means he's still part of the country's government. He was the second-longest serving president ever in his country, which is a really long time to be in charge!
