Imagine a boy named José Raúl Capablanca, born way back in 1888 in Cuba. He was super smart and loved playing chess. When he was only 12, he beat the best chess player in Cuba! That's like a kid beating the best player in a whole country. He was so good, people called him a 'chess prodigy' because he learned and played so amazingly fast.

King of the Chessboard!

José Raúl Capablanca became the World Chess Champion in 1921. He was like a king on the chessboard! For seven whole years, from 1921 to 1927, no one could beat him. He was so good at the end of the game, when there were only a few pieces left, that it was almost impossible to win against him. He was also super fast, like a race car driver on the board!

A Champion's Secret Moves!

What made Capablanca so special? He had a 'light touch,' which means he played very smoothly and made difficult moves look easy. He was also really good at defending when his opponent attacked. He wrote a book called 'Chess Fundamentals' which is still considered one of the best chess books ever written! It helped lots of people learn to play better.

More Than Just a Game!

Capablanca's amazing chess skills inspired other great players, like Bobby Fischer and Anatoly Karpov, who became world champions too. He showed everyone that with practice and a clever mind, you can become a champion. Even though he passed away in 1942, his amazing games and smart ideas about chess are still remembered today.
