Meet John Rae, the Super Explorer!

John Rae was a Scottish doctor who loved adventures in the super cold, icy parts of Canada. He was like a superhero of the Arctic! He sailed in small boats and walked for days and days in the snow. He was so good at living in the wild that he could find food and shelter almost anywhere. He explored places that were very, very far away from any towns or cities.

His Amazing Arctic Adventures!

John Rae went on many trips to the frozen north. He explored a big watery area called the Gulf of Boothia and the icy coast near Victoria Island. These places are covered in snow and ice for most of the year! He traveled in small boats, which is like trying to paddle a bathtub across a giant, bumpy ice rink. He was super strong and could travel for a long time with just a little bit of food.

Finding the Lost Franklin Expedition!

One of John Rae's biggest adventures was finding out what happened to a group of explorers called the Franklin Expedition. They had disappeared a long time ago! John Rae talked to the Inuit people, who knew the land very well. They told him important clues about where the lost explorers might have gone. This was a huge discovery and helped everyone understand the mystery.

Why John Rae is a Star!

John Rae was amazing because he was so brave and smart. He learned how to live like the Inuit people, using their methods for hunting and traveling. This meant he didn't need big, heavy supplies. He could travel further and see more of the amazing Arctic. His discoveries helped map out parts of Canada that no one knew about before. He's a true hero of exploration!
