Key Facts
Who is John McVie?
Imagine a musician who is like the strong foundation of a building, always there and keeping everything together. That's John McVie for the famous band Fleetwood Mac! He plays the bass guitar, which makes the deep, groovy sounds you can feel in your feet.
He's been playing with Fleetwood Mac for a super long time, longer than many grown-ups have been alive! He's one of the only two people who have been in the band since the very, very beginning.
How Did He Join the Band?
John McVie didn't just wake up one day and decide to be in Fleetwood Mac. He was already a great musician playing with another band called John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. Then, in 1967, a musician named Peter Green was starting Fleetwood Mac and needed a bass player.
John said yes, and he replaced someone who was only playing for a little while. It was a great decision because he's still there today, making awesome music!
The Name Game!
Did you know John McVie's name is part of Fleetwood Mac's name? It's true! The band got its name from two of its very first members.
One was the drummer, Mick Fleetwood, and the other was our friend, John McVie. They put their last names together, Fleetwood and McVie, and voilà! They had a cool band name that everyone would remember.
It’s like if your best friend and you started a club and named it after yourselves!
Making Super Songs Together
John McVie and Mick Fleetwood are like the super-glue of Fleetwood Mac. They have played on every single song the band has ever made! That's a lot of music!
John even married a wonderful musician named Christine Perfect, who also joined Fleetwood Mac. Even though they aren't married anymore, they kept making music together. Their band made a famous album called 'Rumours' that lots of people loved.
