John Leland (antiquary)

John Leland was a very special person who lived a long, long time ago, way back in the 1500s! He wasn't a knight or a king, but he was super important because he loved to explore and learn about England's past. He was like a detective for history, always looking for clues in old buildings, books, and stories. He wrote down everything he found so we could learn about it too!

King Henry VIII asked John Leland to go on a HUGE adventure all over England. John traveled from town to town, looking at old castles, churches, and even ancient ruins. John Leland's notes are super important because they tell us so much about what England was like hundreds of years ago.
