Meet John D. Rockefeller!

John D. Rockefeller was born a long, long time ago, in 1839. He grew up in a big family and learned to be very good with numbers.

When he was just 16, he got a job as a bookkeeper, which is like a money helper for a business. He was so smart that he started his own company when he was only 20! This company would change the world of oil forever.

He was a very busy man who worked hard his whole life.

The Amazing Oil Machine!

John D. Rockefeller started a company called Standard Oil. Back then, people needed oil for lamps to light up their homes at night and for cars to drive.

Rockefeller's company got really, really good at making and selling oil. It became so big that it controlled almost 90% of all the oil in the United States! That's like if one kid had almost all the toys on the playground.

His company was like a giant oil machine that made him incredibly wealthy.

From Riches to Giving!

When John D. Rockefeller got older, he stopped running his oil company. But he didn't stop working!

He decided to use all the money he had made to help others. He gave away HUGE amounts of money to build schools, hospitals, and to help doctors find cures for sicknesses. He helped create universities, like the University of Chicago, and even helped fight diseases like hookworm in the Southern United States.

He wanted to make the world a better place.

Why We Remember John D.

John D. Rockefeller was one of the richest people EVER! His company, Standard Oil, was so powerful that the government had to break it up into smaller pieces.

Some of those pieces are still giant companies today, like ExxonMobil and Chevron! But what makes him really special is how much he gave away. He showed everyone how a rich person could use their money to do amazing things for science, education, and health.

He was a true game-changer!
