King of Two Lands!

Imagine being king of England and Scotland at the same time! That’s what James I did. He was born in Scotland, a country with big mountains and lots of sheep. Then, he became king of England too, a land with busy cities and rolling hills. He traveled between his two kingdoms, but England was where he spent most of his time as king. It was like having two favorite playgrounds to visit!

A Royal Writer's Life

King James wasn't just good at ruling; he loved to write! He wrote books about kings, ghosts, and even how to catch witches. He was also the king when a very famous translation of the Bible was made, called the King James Version. It’s still used by many people today! He was a busy king, always thinking and writing.

Building Big Things!

During King James's time, lots of grand buildings were made. Think of big castles and fancy houses. One of the most famous things from his reign is the Gunpowder Plot. Some people tried to blow up Parliament, the place where laws are made, but they were caught! It’s a reminder that even kings had to deal with tricky situations.

What Did People Do?

In England and Scotland back then, many people worked on farms, growing food like wheat and barley. Others were skilled craftspeople, making things like clothes, shoes, and tools. Merchants traded goods, sending wool and cloth to other countries. It was a time when hard work helped build the kingdoms.
