Paul learned all about it from a young age. He was so good at making money that he became one of the richest people in the whole world!

His Amazing Money-Making Machine!

J. Paul Getty started his own company called Getty Oil in 1942. Think of it like starting your own lemonade stand, but instead of lemonade, he was selling oil! Oil is what makes cars go and powers many things we use every day. He was so good at finding and selling oil that his company grew bigger and bigger, making him incredibly wealthy.

Guess what? In 1957, a magazine said J. Paul Getty was the richest person in America! And later, a book called Guinness Book of Records said he was the richest person on Earth. He was worth about $1.2 billion dollars. That's a number with so many zeros, it's hard to even count! It's like having more toys than all your friends combined, and then some!

A Treasure Chest of Art!

Even though he was super rich, J. Paul Getty loved art and old things. He collected so many amazing statues and paintings that he decided to build a special museum for them! Today, the J. Paul Getty Museum is a famous place where people can see all the beautiful art he collected. He even left lots of his money to the museum after he passed away to make sure everyone could enjoy it.
