Key Facts
What's Happening Here?
The Islamic Revolution was a big change in Iran, a country far away. It happened a long time ago, in 1979. Before this, Iran was ruled by a king called the Shah. But many people wanted a different kind of government, one that followed Islamic rules. So, they worked together to make a big change, like a giant wave washing over the country and changing everything.
How Did They Do It?
It wasn't a war with swords and shields, but more like a huge protest! Lots of people, from students to shopkeepers, went out into the streets. They sang songs, held signs, and told the Shah they wanted him to leave. It was like a giant school play where everyone knew their lines and wanted the same ending. Eventually, the Shah left, and a new leader, Ayatollah Khomeini, came to power.
Why Does It Matter?
This revolution changed Iran forever! It meant that laws and rules in Iran had to follow Islamic teachings. Things like how people dressed, what they could watch on TV, and how schools were run all changed. It's like if your school suddenly decided to teach everything in a new language and have new rules for playtime. It made Iran very different from many other countries.
A Big Moment in Time
The leader who came back after the revolution was Ayatollah Khomeini. He had been living in another country for a long time because the Shah didn't like his ideas. When he returned, people cheered! He became the new leader and helped shape the new Islamic Republic of Iran. This event is still talked about today because it made Iran a unique place.
