IG Farben: The Giant Chemical Company

Once upon a time, there was a giant company in Germany called IG Farben. It was like a super-team made by joining six other big companies together! They were like the Avengers of chemistry, working together to create amazing things. This company was so huge, it was the largest in all of Europe and the biggest chemical and medicine maker on the entire planet!

IG Farben wasn't born all at once. It was created in 1925 when six different companies decided to team up. Think of it like six different toy companies merging to make one super-toy company! These companies were Agfa, BASF, Bayer, Griesheim-Elektron, Hoechst, and Weiler-ter-Meer. They all came together to become the mighty IG Farben.

IG Farben's scientists were like wizards! They invented super important things that we still use today. One scientist, Otto Bayer, discovered how to make a bouncy material called polyurethane, which is used in things like foam cushions and shoe soles.

Other scientists won special awards called Nobel Prizes for discovering new ways to make chemicals and for finding medicines that could fight bad germs!

But this giant company also had a very sad and scary part of its story. During a terrible time called World War II, IG Farben helped the bad guys by making things for their war. They even used people who were forced to work for them, like prisoners in camps. Sadly, one of their products was a gas that was used to hurt and kill many, many people.
