Sydney's Big Green Backyard!

Hyde Park is like a super big, super green backyard right in the middle of Sydney, Australia! It's a place where people can run, play, and relax. It's shaped a bit like a rectangle, but with a rounded top.

On one side, there's a busy street called Elizabeth Street, and on the other, College Street. It's also next to other beautiful parks that lead all the way to the big blue harbour. It's a special place for everyone in the city to enjoy.

A Park with a Long, Long Story!

This park is super old, it's the oldest park in all of Australia! It started way back in 1810 and took a very, very long time to finish, until 1927. Before it was a park, people called it by different names, like 'Sydney Common' or 'The Exercising Ground.' Imagine people playing cricket or having races here a long, long time ago! It's like a living history book made of grass and trees.

Trees, Trees Everywhere!

Hyde Park is filled with about 580 trees! That's more trees than you might find in many schoolyards. There are tall fig trees that make shady tunnels to walk through, and other kinds like pointy conifers and leafy palms. These trees make the park look so beautiful and provide cool shade on hot days. There are even special gardens called Sandringham Gardens where you can see pretty flowers.

What's Happening in the Park?

Lots of important buildings are near Hyde Park, like a big court where people go for justice, a beautiful church called St Mary's Cathedral, and even a museum! The park is even split in two by a street called Park Street. It's a place where city life meets nature, and it's owned by the city itself, meaning it's for everyone to look after and enjoy. It's a very important spot in Sydney!
