Key Facts

Human-Caused Changes
Changes to the environment, ecosystems, and natural resources caused by people.
Early Impact
Began with the Agricultural Revolution, when people started farming and clearing land.
Global Warming Cause
Burning fossil fuels like coal and oil releases gases that trap heat.
Ocean Change
Human activities can make oceans more acidic, harming sea life.

Meet the Earth's Big Helper (and Sometimes Buster!)

Imagine our Earth is like a giant playground. Humans are like the kids playing on it! We build cool things like houses and roads, which is great.

But sometimes, when we play, we accidentally leave a mess. This mess can be things like trash in the ocean or smoke from cars that makes the air yucky. These changes we make are called human impact.

It means how we affect the plants, animals, and even the weather all around us.

When Did We Start Changing Things?

Long, long ago, when people first started farming, they began to change the land. They cleared forests to plant food and build homes. As more people were born and lived together, they needed more space and more things.

They started using more resources from the Earth, like wood and water. This was the beginning of humans making bigger changes to our planet, even before we had cars or big factories!

Why Does It Matter to Us?

Think about your favorite park or beach. We want those places to stay clean and beautiful, right? When humans make too much pollution, it can make the air hard to breathe and the water unsafe for fish.

It can also make the Earth get warmer, like wearing too many sweaters on a sunny day. This can cause problems for animals, plants, and even for us. Keeping our planet healthy means we can all enjoy it for a long, long time.

What Happens When We Change Things?

When we burn fuel for cars or electricity, it can put gases into the air that trap heat, making the Earth warmer. This is like a blanket around the planet that gets thicker and thicker. It can also cause oceans to become more acidic, which is tough for sea creatures.

Sometimes, when we cut down too many trees, animals lose their homes. These are all ways our actions can change the environment around us.
