Houndshark

Houndsharks are a whole family of sharks, like a big shark family reunion! There are about 40 different kinds. They are not usually super big, some are as small as a big ruler and others can be as long as a small car.

They have two big fins on their backs that don't have sharp spikes, and a fin on their tail. Their eyes are round and have a special clear eyelid that can close to protect them, like sunglasses for swimming!

These sharks love warm and not-too-cold ocean waters all around the world. Imagine them swimming in sunny places near the beach or in deeper, cooler parts of the ocean. They like to explore the sandy bottom where they can find yummy snacks. They are found in oceans everywhere, from places that are warm to places that are just right, not too hot and not too cold.

Houndsharks are super good at finding food! They eat small fish that swim by and little creatures that live on the ocean floor, like crabs or shrimp. They are like underwater treasure hunters, searching for their meals. They can find food both when they are swimming in the middle of the water and when they are exploring down near the sand. They are definitely not picky eaters!

Did you know houndsharks have been around for a super long time? Their ancestors swam in the oceans even when dinosaurs were around! They have special eyelids that can slide down to protect their eyes when they are hunting or swimming. These sharks are important because they help keep the ocean healthy by eating other sea creatures. They are a fascinating part of our big blue planet!
