Meet the Giant Mountain!

Hoher Dachstein is a super tall mountain in Austria, a country in Europe. It's so big that it's the second-highest mountain in a whole mountain range called the Northern Limestone Alps! Think of it like the second-tallest kid on the tallest playground in the world.

This mountain is so special it sits right on the border between two places called Upper Austria and Styria, and it's the highest point in both of them! It's like a king ruling over two lands.

A Mountain with Three Faces!

Did you know Hoher Dachstein is also called the 'three-state mountain'? That's because parts of it stretch into a third place called Salzburg. So, it's like a mountain that has friends in three different neighborhoods!

From one side, you can see shiny glaciers, which are like giant rivers of ice, with rocky tops poking out. But from the other side, it drops down super fast, like a giant slide all the way to the bottom of the valley!

What's it Like Up There?

The very top of Hoher Dachstein is almost 3,000 meters high! That's super, super tall, way taller than any building you've ever seen. It's so high that it's often covered in snow and ice, even in the summer.

The ground around the mountain is made of special rock that has lots of holes and caves, like a giant sponge. This is called karst. It means water can disappear underground, making rivers and lakes pop up in surprising places!

Fun Facts About the Big Peak!

Hoher Dachstein is part of a huge rocky area that covers about 600 square kilometers. That's bigger than many towns! Even though it's one main mountain, there are lots of other smaller peaks around it that are still super high, over 2,500 meters.

Imagine a whole family of giant mountains living together! The southern side of the mountain is very steep, almost like a giant cliff face, which makes it look very dramatic and impressive.
