A Country Divided!

In 1939, two big neighbors, Germany and the Soviet Union, decided to split Poland right down the middle! It was like two kids taking away half of another kid's toys. This invasion started a terrible war that lasted for six long years. Poland's land was hurt, and its people were very sad and scared.

Super Sad Times for Many

During this war, millions of people in Poland lost their lives. The Nazis in Germany were especially cruel to Jewish people, trying to wipe them out completely. Many innocent people were sent to terrible places called extermination camps, like Auschwitz, where they were treated horribly and many died. It was a time of great suffering.

Brave Fighters and Secret Helpers

Even though they were attacked, the Polish people didn't give up! They formed secret armies and resistance groups to fight back. These brave men and women worked in secret, like spies, to help their country. They even had a government that tried to lead from far away, like a captain directing a ship from shore.

Hoping for a Brighter Tomorrow

After the war ended in 1945, Poland was finally free from the invaders. But the country was very broken and needed a lot of help to rebuild. The people had lost so much, but they held onto hope for a peaceful future. They remembered the brave people who fought and the terrible things that happened.
