Key Facts
A City Born on Water!
Long, long ago, around 1325, a group of people called the Mexica built a super cool city named Tenochtitlan. It was built on islands in a big lake! They built amazing temples and palaces, like giant LEGO castles. It was so big, it was like a whole town just for kings, priests, and busy shoppers. It was home to about 100,000 people, which is more than all the kids in your whole school district!
New City, Old Bones!
Then, explorers from far away came and changed everything. They built a new city right on top of the old one, like building a new house on the same spot. This new city became the capital, where important decisions were made. Many old buildings from this time are still around, like ancient treasures. It's like finding a secret message from the past hidden in plain sight!
A City of Palaces and Learning!
This city became known as the 'City of Palaces' because it had so many grand houses and buildings. It was also a place where people went to learn! Lots of people from different backgrounds lived here, making it a busy, colorful place with many different traditions.

Over hundreds of years, this city grew and grew, becoming one of the biggest cities in the world! Sometimes, growing so fast can be tricky, like when your room gets too messy. There were challenges, but also amazing inventions like the Metro subway to help people get around.
