Who Found Florida First?

Long, long ago, even before castles and knights, people called Paleo-Indians walked on Florida's land. That was about 14,000 years ago! Imagine people living there when dinosaurs might have still roamed the Earth, but these were humans!

They left behind cool tools and clues about their lives. Then, a super long time later, a brave explorer named Juan Ponce de León sailed to Florida. He was the first European to write down what he saw, and he gave Florida its flowery name because it was springtime and full of blossoms!

Who Lived Here and When?

Florida has been a home to many different groups of people. First, there were the Native Americans who lived there for thousands of years. Then, explorers from Spain and France came in ships.

Later, people from Great Britain also ruled Florida for a little while. It was like a game of musical chairs with who was in charge! Finally, Florida became a part of the United States, and it was like joining a big family of states.

It officially became the 27th state in 1845, which is a long, long time ago!

Why is Florida So Sunny?

Florida is called the 'Sunshine State' for a super good reason! It has warm weather and lots and lots of sunny days. This amazing sunshine and beautiful beaches have made it a favorite spot for people to visit and live.

Lots of people move there from colder places to enjoy the warmth. It's like a giant magnet for sunshine lovers! This has made Florida grow really big, with more people than New York, making it the third most crowded state in the whole country!

Florida's Awesome Jobs!

Florida's jobs have changed a lot over time. At first, people used trees, dug for minerals, fished in the ocean, and even dove for sponges. They also raised cattle and grew yummy citrus fruits like oranges.

Now, Florida is famous for its amazing theme parks and beaches, which bring in tons of tourists. It's also a great place for businesses and for people to retire and relax. So, Florida went from digging up nature to making people happy with fun and sunshine!
