A King Born Too Soon!

Henry VI was born a long, long time ago, in 1421. His dad, King Henry V, was a famous warrior. But when Henry VI was only 8 months old, his dad passed away.

Suddenly, baby Henry was the King of England! He was so little, he couldn't even walk or talk yet. Grown-ups had to make all the decisions for him until he was older.

It’s like being the boss of your whole school when you’re still in kindergarten!

King of Two Countries?

Believe it or not, Henry VI was also supposed to be the King of France! His grandpa was the King of France, and when he died, Henry became king there too. He was even crowned King of France in a big ceremony in Paris.

But ruling two countries was super tricky, especially when there was a big war called the Hundred Years' War going on between England and France. It was like trying to play two different games at the same time and not knowing which one to win!

A Gentle King in a Rough Time

Henry VI wasn't like his dad. He didn't like fighting or being mean. He was a kind and gentle person who wanted everyone to get along.

He tried to make peace with France by marrying a French princess. But England was having lots of problems. The important lords and ladies started arguing with each other, and the country got very messy.

This made Henry very sad and stressed, and he got sick in his mind.

Wars and Wacky Changes

Because Henry VI wasn't strong enough to handle all the problems, a big fight started in England called the Wars of the Roses. It was a huge battle between two important families, the Yorks and the Lancasters (Henry's family). Henry was even taken off the throne and put in prison!

Then, he became king again for a little while, but then he was captured and imprisoned again. It was a very confusing and sad time for England and for Henry.
