Where Did Henry Rule?
Henry IV was the King of England, a country that's an island just off the coast of Europe. He also ruled over a place called Ireland and a part of France called Aquitaine. England has rolling green hills, busy cities, and a chilly, rainy climate, especially in the north.
It's a land full of history, with old castles and stories around every corner. Think of it like a big playground with lots of different games to play!
How Henry Became King!
Henry wasn't born to be king, but he really wanted to be! His cousin, King Richard II, was in charge. Henry got angry when Richard took away his dad's land. So, Henry gathered friends, marched back to England, and took the crown from Richard! It was a bit like a big game of musical chairs, but with real kingdoms. This big change meant England's rulers would be different from then on.
A King Who Spoke English!
Guess what? Henry IV was super special because he was the first king in a super long time whose first language was English! Before him, kings mostly spoke French. This made him more like the people he ruled. He also had to deal with some tricky problems, like people trying to rebel against him. He even fought a big battle called the Battle of Shrewsbury!
Henry's Big Family and Legacy
King Henry IV had a big family with six children from his first wife, Mary. His second wife, Joan, didn't have any children with him. His oldest son, Henry of Monmouth, became very important because the king got sick. When Henry IV died, his son became the next king, Henry V. He was a famous king too, known for his bravery!
