Henri Rousseau: The Painter Who Dreamed of Jungles!

Henri Rousseau was a super cool painter who lived a long time ago in France. He was born in 1844 and lived until 1910. What's really neat is that he didn't go to art school!

He taught himself how to paint. Imagine learning to draw or paint all by yourself! He loved to paint colorful pictures, especially of jungles with wild animals and lush plants.

He was like a storyteller with his paintbrush, showing us worlds he imagined.

Even though Henri Rousseau lived in a city and probably never saw a real jungle, he painted them so vividly! He would look at pictures in books and visit the zoo to get ideas. His paintings show lions, tigers, monkeys, and lots of green leaves and flowers.

Sometimes his animals look a little bit funny, like they are posing for a picture. His art is like a dream, full of bright colors and exciting scenes that make you want to step right into the painting!

People at first thought Henri Rousseau's paintings were a bit strange because they looked different from other art at the time. But now, we see how special they are! His art is called 'naive' art, which means it looks simple and honest, like a child's drawing but with amazing detail.

He painted with lots of feeling and imagination. His jungle scenes are so famous that they are in museums all over the world, and kids like you can see them and be inspired by his unique way of seeing the world.

Henri Rousseau worked as a toll collector before becoming a full-time painter. He didn't start painting seriously until he was in his 40s! He was very brave to follow his dream of being an artist.

He showed his paintings at art shows, and even though some people didn't understand them at first, other artists and writers started to admire his work. He proved that you can achieve amazing things if you follow your passion, no matter how old you are or where you come from.
