Who Was This Awesome King?

Imagine a king named Gwanggaeto who lived a super long time ago, from 374 to 412. He was the 19th ruler of a powerful kingdom called Goguryeo. His name means 'Broad Expander of Domain,' which tells you he was really good at making his kingdom bigger!

He was like a superhero king, leading his people and making sure they were safe and strong. He even had a special name for his time as king, called Yeongnak.

Gwanggaeto's Superpower: Making His Kingdom HUGE!

Gwanggaeto was amazing at expanding his kingdom. He was like a super-strategist, winning battles and bringing more lands under his rule. He fought in places that are now parts of China and Russia, and even made sure his kingdom controlled a big part of Korea.

He was so successful that his time is called a 'golden age' for Goguryeo, meaning it was a time of great success and happiness for his people.

Conquering the Korean Peninsula!

One of Gwanggaeto's biggest achievements was bringing much of Korea together. He was so strong that he defeated other powerful kingdoms on the peninsula, like Baekje and Silla. He even sent 50,000 soldiers to help Silla when they were in trouble! This made Goguryeo the most powerful kingdom, and it was like he loosely united the whole peninsula under his rule. It was a huge deal!

A Giant Stone Storyteller!

To remember all of Gwanggaeto's amazing deeds, his son built a giant stone pillar called the Gwanggaeto Stele. It's the biggest engraved stone in the whole world! This stone tells the story of his life and all the lands he conquered. It was put up in 414, not too long after he passed away. It's like a giant history book made of rock, standing tall for everyone to see.
