Where is Grobiņa?

Grobiņa is a cool town in a country called Latvia, which is in Europe. It's not too far from a bigger city called Liepāja, just a short trip away. Think of it like living a little way out of town, but still close enough to visit your friends easily. The weather there is nice, with warm summers for playing outside and snowy winters for building snowmen.

Knights and Castles!

A super long time ago, brave knights called the Teutonic Knights built a castle here! You can still see some of the old stone walls standing today. It’s like a real-life history adventure! The town also got its special 'charter' – like a special permission slip – a very, very long time ago, in 1695. That means it's been an official town for hundreds of years!

Viking Visitors!

Guess what? Grobiņa was once a super important place for people from Scandinavia, like Vikings! They sailed their long boats across the sea and made this place a busy hub. It was so important that it might have been even older than other famous Viking spots. They even left behind lots of burial mounds, which are like ancient hills where people were laid to rest.

Amazing Ancient Hills!

The most amazing thing about Grobiņa is the ancient burial mounds. There are about 3,000 of them! That's more than the number of kids in your whole school, maybe even a few schools put together! These mounds are like time capsules, showing us what life was like for people way, way back in the past. They are some of the best ancient treasures in all of Northern Europe!
