Key Facts
Where is New South Wales?
New South Wales is a sunny place in the country of Australia, way down in the Southern Hemisphere! It's like a giant island continent. Imagine a big playground with beaches, mountains, and forests. That's a bit like New South Wales! It's a very special part of Australia where lots of people live and work.
Who Was the First Governor?
A long, long time ago, in 1788, when Australia was first explored by Europeans, the very first Governor arrived. He was like the first boss of this new land. This job has been around for so long, it's the oldest official job in all of Australia! It's older than your grandparents, and maybe even older than their grandparents!
What Does the Governor Do?
The Governor is like the King's or Queen's special helper in New South Wales. They do important jobs and also attend fun events, like opening new buildings or celebrating special days. They make sure everything runs smoothly, just like a teacher helps run a classroom. The current Governor is Margaret Beazley.
The Governor's Big Job
The Governor is chosen by the King, but the people who live in New South Wales also have a say through their leader, the Premier. They usually stay in their job for about five years. It's a very important role that helps connect New South Wales to the King and Queen of the United Kingdom.
