Who Are These Big Guys?

Gorillas are the largest primates on Earth, which means they are related to monkeys and humans! They have thick, dark fur and are super strong. Imagine a grown-up gorilla being as tall as a small car when standing up! They are very peaceful animals that spend most of their time eating leaves, fruits, and stems. They live in family groups led by a big, strong male called a silverback.

Where Do Gorillas Hang Out?

Gorillas live in the tropical forests of Africa, which are like giant, green jungles! There are two main kinds: the Western Gorilla and the Eastern Gorilla. Western Gorillas live in countries like Cameroon and Gabon, while Eastern Gorillas live in places like Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. They love living in forests with lots of trees and plants to eat and hide in.

Gorilla Grub Time!

Gorillas are herbivores, which means they only eat plants! Their favorite snacks include leaves, stems, fruits, and sometimes even bark. They spend a lot of their day looking for food and eating. A grown-up gorilla can eat a lot, sometimes up to 40 pounds of plants in just one day! That's like eating 80 whole heads of lettuce!

Why Gorillas Need Our Help!

Sadly, gorillas are endangered, which means there aren't many of them left. Their homes are being destroyed, and sometimes they are hunted. It's important to protect them so they can keep living in their forest homes. When we protect gorillas, we also help protect the forests they live in, which are important for our planet too!
