Key Facts
Meet GN-z11: A Tiny Speck in the Sky!
GN-z11 is a galaxy, which is like a giant city of stars! But this galaxy is super, super far away from Earth. It's so far that its light has been traveling for almost 13.4 billion years to get to our eyes! That's older than your grandparents, and even older than dinosaurs! It's like looking back in time to see what the universe was like when it was just a baby.
Zooming Through Space and Time!
This galaxy is named GN-z11 because of where scientists found it and how its light looks to us. When light travels a super long way, it can stretch out, kind of like a rubber band. Scientists can tell how far away something is by how much its light has stretched. GN-z11's light has stretched a LOT, meaning it's one of the most distant things we've ever seen!
A Baby Universe Surprise!
Scientists found GN-z11 using amazing telescopes that can see light from very far away. They were surprised to find such a bright galaxy so early in the universe's life. It's like finding a busy playground when the park was just built! This tells us that stars and galaxies started forming much sooner than we thought.
What's Inside This Faraway Galaxy?
Even though GN-z11 is super far, scientists think it has a giant black hole in its middle! A black hole is like a super-strong vacuum cleaner in space that pulls everything in. This black hole is very, very big, even bigger than our Sun! It's like finding a giant monster in a tiny dollhouse, showing us that big things can exist even in the early universe.
