A Royal Neighborhood!

Right next to the super famous Great Pyramid of Giza, there's a place called the East Field. It's like a special neighborhood where the family of the pharaoh Khufu, who built the Great Pyramid, were buried. It also has tombs for priests and workers who helped take care of the pyramids. It's a very old and important place from a long, long time ago!

Tiny Pyramids for Queens!

In the East Field, you can find three smaller pyramids. These were built for the queens, the wives of the pharaohs! Usually, these queen pyramids are built south of the king's pyramid, but here they had to be built to the east because there was a big rock quarry in the way. It’s like having to move your playground because the swings are broken!

Big Stone Houses for Tombs!

Besides the queen's pyramids, there are lots of other tombs called mastabas. These look like flat-topped rectangular buildings made of stone. Some of the earliest ones were built in neat rows, like houses on a street. The biggest one, belonging to a prince named Ankhhaf, was super huge, almost as big as a small house!

Who Lived and Worked Here?

The East Field wasn't just for the royal family. It also held the tombs of people who worked for the pharaohs, like priests and important officials. These tombs were built over many, many years, even after the pharaohs who built the big pyramids were gone. It shows how important this area was for a very long time!
