Secret Spy Names for Cannons!
During a big war called World War II, Germany found lots of big, loud cannons that weren't made in Germany. Instead of just calling them 'that French cannon' or 'that Russian cannon,' they gave them special German names! It was like giving them secret spy code names. This helped the German soldiers know exactly which big gun they were talking about, even if it was made in a different country.
Why Give New Names?
Think about having a toy car that looks like your friend's car, but it's a different color. If you both called it 'the red car,' it might get confusing! Germany did something similar. They wanted to organize all the different cannons they captured. Giving them German names, just like their own cannons had, made it easier to keep track of them and use them.
Captured Cannons on Duty!
Sometimes, when Germany captured these foreign cannons, they didn't just leave them there. They would actually use them themselves! When a German soldier used a cannon that was originally made in, say, Poland, they would call it by its German secret name. This way, everyone in the German army knew exactly what kind of weapon was being fired, even if it was a visitor from another country.
A Big List of Names!
The German army made a super long list of all these foreign weapons and their new German names. It was like a special dictionary for their cannons! This helped them understand and use all sorts of different artillery. It shows how important it was for them to know about and organize the weapons they found, no matter where they came from.
