Where is England?

Imagine a big island called Great Britain. England is the biggest part of it, taking up most of the middle and south! It's like the main slice of a yummy cake.

To the north, it has a neighbor called Scotland, and to the west, there's Wales. England is also super close to other countries in Europe, like France. There's only a little bit of sea between them, and a super-duper long tunnel goes underneath it, connecting England right to the mainland!

Hills, Plains, and Mountains!

England has lots of different kinds of land. A lot of it is made of gentle, rolling hills and flat, open plains, like a big, soft blanket. But if you go up north or to the west, you'll find taller hills and even mountains!

The Lake District has the highest mountains, some are even taller than a big slide at the playground. The Pennines are like a giant backbone, splitting the country in two. Some parts are so flat, they're called the Fens, which used to be watery marshes!

Water, Water Everywhere!

England has lots of water, but not always where you might expect. The biggest natural harbor, which is a safe place for boats to park, is at Poole. It's so big, some people think it's the second biggest in the whole world, even bigger than many swimming pools!

England also has a famous sea gap separating it from France, which is only about 21 miles wide. That's like driving from your house to a friend's house that's a bit far away.

What Makes England Special?

England is a land of contrasts, with gentle countryside and dramatic uplands. It's a place where you can find ancient hills and modern tunnels connecting you to other countries. The land has been shaped over a very, very long time, creating beautiful places to explore. From the highest peaks to the widest harbors, England's geography is full of surprises and wonders for everyone to discover.
