Welcome to Gambela!
Gambela is a special place in western Ethiopia, like a big neighborhood! It's called a 'regional state,' which means it's a part of the country with its own leaders. The biggest city here is also called Gambela. It's a place where two important rivers, the Baro and the Akobo, flow. Think of them like giant water highways for the land!
How Big is Gambela?
Gambela is about as big as a very large playground, covering around 29,783 square kilometers. That's a lot of space! But even though it's big, it doesn't have too many people living there. Imagine a school bus filled with people – Gambela has about 525,000 people, which is less than many big cities. It's one of Ethiopia's smaller and less crowded regions.
Who Lives in Gambela?

Gambela's Neighbors
Gambela has neighbors all around! To the east, it touches the Oromia Region, and to the south, it's next to the South West Ethiopia Region. But its most exciting neighbor is to the west: the country of South Sudan! So, Gambela is a place right on the edge of Ethiopia, looking out towards another whole country.
