Galago: The Bush Baby That Leaps!

Galagos, also called bush babies, are super cute, small primates that live in Africa. They have enormous eyes, perfect for seeing in the dark, and long, strong legs that help them jump amazing distances. Imagine a tiny monkey that can leap like a frog!

They are nocturnal, meaning they sleep during the day and come out at night to play and find food. Their fluffy tails help them balance when they leap from tree to tree. They are so small, some can fit in your hands!

These little acrobats call the forests and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa their home. That means they live in many countries south of the Sahara Desert. You might find them snoozing in tree holes during the day or scampering through the branches at night.

They love places with lots of trees because that's where they can jump and play safely. Their homes are like treetop playgrounds, full of branches to swing on and leaves to hide in.

Galagos are omnivores, which means they eat both plants and animals! Their favorite snacks include insects, like juicy bugs and moths, which they catch with quick pounces. They also love to eat fruits, flowers, and tree sap.

It's like having a buffet in the forest! They use their sharp senses to find food, and their quick reflexes help them grab a tasty bug right out of the air. Sometimes, they even eat bird eggs if they find them!

Galagos are famous for their incredible jumping abilities. Their legs are so powerful they can leap more than 16 feet (5 meters) in a single bound – that's longer than a school bus! They use these leaps to escape danger, catch food, and travel through the trees.

When they land, they can grip branches tightly with their hands and feet. They also make cute chirping and squeaking sounds to talk to each other, like little forest chatterboxes!
