Freston causewayed enclosure

Long, long ago, even before castles and knights, people built a super big circle in the ground called Freston causewayed enclosure. It's like a giant puzzle made of ditches with gaps, like missing pieces! These ditches were dug by hand, which took a LOT of work. It's so big, it's like having a playground the size of about 17 football fields all connected!

Scientists are like detectives who study old places. They found Freston by looking at pictures taken from airplanes! They saw marks in the ground that showed where the ditches used to be. It’s like finding a secret map hidden in the grass. They even found bits of old wood that might have been part of a big fence, called a palisade, around the whole place.

Nobody knows for sure why people built this giant circle! Maybe it was a special meeting place where friends and families got together. Or perhaps it was a place for important ceremonies and celebrations. It's a bit like a mystery puzzle from the past that we're still trying to solve. It makes you wonder what life was like for people so long ago!

Freston is one of the biggest of these ancient circles found in Britain! It's so huge that it would have taken thousands of people working for many days to dig all those ditches. Imagine if everyone in your school helped dig a giant hole – that’s how much work it was! It shows that the people who built it were very organized and worked together.
