Who Built This Giant Fort?

A group of people from England called the Royal African Company built Fort James in 1673. That's over 350 years ago! They built it to be a place where they could trade things like gold. It was named after a very important person in England at the time, who was in charge of the company. The town right next to the fort is even named Jamestown because of him!

More Than Just Trading: A Place for People!

Fort James wasn't just for trading gold. It was also used as a place where people were kept, like a prison. Even Ghana's first president, Kwame Nkrumah, was once locked up there!
