Key Facts
Where the Big Boats Are Born!
Welcome to Forgacs Shipyard, a super cool place where huge ships are made! It's like a giant playground for metal, but instead of swings, they have cranes and docks. This special place is located in a town called Tomago, in a part of Australia called New South Wales. It sits right on the Hunter River, which is like a watery highway for ships!
From Tiny Seeds to Giant Ships!
This shipyard didn't always look like it does today. It started way back in 1957 in a different spot called Carrington. Back then, it was called Carrington Slipways, and it built 45 ships! But as the ships got bigger, the shipyard needed more space, so in 1972, it moved to its current home in Tomago. It's like moving from a small bedroom to a giant mansion!
Making Boats for Everyone!
Forgacs Shipyard has built all sorts of amazing boats. They even made some special ferries called First Fleet-class ferries. These are the boats that help people travel across the water, like a bus for the river! They also helped build parts for boats used by the navy, like HMAS Rushcutter and HMAS Shoalwater, which are like the police cars of the sea.
A Busy Place on the River!
This shipyard is a really important place because it helps build the boats that carry things and people all around. It's a place where lots of clever people work together, using big machines to put together giant pieces of metal. Itβs a bit like building with LEGO, but the LEGO bricks are as big as a house!
